About the designer

My name is Leta Lynette Collen, and I am a third-year Interior Design student at Vega in Cape Town. My creativity extends beyond design into photography, video editing, and garment making, each of which fuels my imagination and shapes my design approach.

Growing up on my father’s cattle farm, I developed a deep connection with nature through long drives, mountain hikes, and nights under the stars. These experiences fostered my love for organic forms, natural textures, and earthy tones, which now define my design philosophy. I strive to create interiors that feel grounded, harmonious, and inspired by the natural world.

Creativity also runs through my family. Both my grandmothers were highly artistic and have profoundly influenced my sculptural and material choices. My personal brand incorporates the colours blue and brown in their honour. Ouma Leta, who taught me the art of dressmaking and grace, is symbolised by baby blue, reflecting her soft and timeless spirit. Ganna Margot, a bold sculptor and painter, inspired my love for art and confidence, qualities embodied by the colour brown.

Together, their creativity and my rural upbringing continue to guide me in designing spaces that celebrate both nature and artistry.

My work celebrates the balance between softness and strength, structure and emotion. As I continue to grow as a designer, I aim to create spaces that honour both nature and art.
